Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Release the Kraken!

A few of my friends told me now that I'm painting up an Epic force in such detail I also should make some terrain to match that level of detail. I always prefer painting miniatures to painting terrain, actually I have only ever painted one piece of terrain (a small ruin that I build out of styrodur). Then again I just started painting 1,5 years ago. Well, what I want to say is that first of all I will be painting my Ultramarines and after that if I feel like it I'll probably do some terrain. However I have...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Rock’n'Roll

So the Vindicators are ready, let's move on to something a bit more exciting... motorcylces, attackbikes to be specific There's really not much to say about them. I've put them on 2 x 4 cm bases, the same size that I use for other infantry models (ruleswise bikes count as infantry and attack bikes count as light vehicles). I would have liked for them to have a cloud of dust hanging behind them, showing their aggressive speed and riding but I wasn't sure how to realize this (I don't like the look of cotton wool on models,...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Time to get dirty!

As you might have taken from my previous posts, I'm really into weathering and battle damage, I just love the look of a well rusted vehicle that looks like it really has seen some use on the battlefield. Some people seem to be under the impression that the Ultramarine Techmarines have incorporated Teflon or something similar into the battlesuits and armour of their vehicles and therefore they always look impeccable and fresh. I'm here to proof these people wrong, Ultramarines get dirty, too! Mine have been on a long crusade and have seen a lot of fights with...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Small steps at first

After painting up my first Rhino I wanted something bigger to see how the basing I opted for (3 x 4 cm masonite) would look there, so I picked up a Land Raider Prometheus and painted away... Why did I opt for not only basing my infantry (mandatory ruleswise) but also my vehicles (purely optional ruleswise)?  It will pull the army together and will make them look like a whole. For me this is the most important point. It really makes a big difference on the table and when you put them on display in your cabinet they will absolutely rock! ...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - How it started

In the heat of summer 2015 I met up with a fellow gamer from Munich in the Beergarden at the Chinese Tower in the middle of the Englischer Garten. Both of us were quite into 28mm Gaming and he also had played some 10mm Warmaster historical. We wanted to play a wargaming system that felt realistic and supported combined arms forces. Each of us had done some research beforehand and after putting the options that we had found (Command Horizon, Age of Tyrants, Strike Legion, Wessex Iron Cow, Dystopian Wars, Epic Armageddon) on the table we quickly came to the conclusion...

the dark chamber

By accident I passed some Epic game stuff on WikiP that guided me to this place. Looks nice. Maybe it can motivate me to do some stuff so Ill scribble some runes into the virtual slab and let it into the cyber warp and see what happens... First I’m just going through that old story again so I feel more comfortable being here. In 1989 A.D. A classmate had some weird but awesome white metal figures called Space Marines, seemingly in 1/48 scale. You could actually play with them using some sort of rule system - “without game...

Plasmablast Games 6mm Marhaf Legion Range

Anyone interested in other 6mm ranges? I've bought a fair amount of  Plasmablast minis so thought I'd stick this video together showing of my Marhaf Legion. I also have Plasmablast's Orbital Combine and Progenitors on my painting slate, again with a view to adding videos for these. I've written rules for the Marhaf Legion for Net Epic and will be play testing these at the weekend. Hopefully a battle report will follow! http://youtu.be/FtCbjbA1x7E

Epic Objectives

For decades I used the old objective counters from 2nd edition Space Marine on my battlefield which served me well. But a few years ago I became inspired by a few posts on Tactical Command to make objectives more than just a piece of card. In the hope that I might inspire others in a similar manner, I've put together a short video of miniatures I use for my objective markers.  Most of these are available from various companies, but I've also stuck in a few home builds to show that making these things doesn't...
