Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Flying Thunder

Here's a new addition to my Epic Ultramarines. I've been proxying Land Speeders with motorcycles in a lot of games lately so I really felt like I should finally get some painted even more so that I already had the miniatures since over a year.  I hope you like these Land Speeders as far as I know they are the first evolution of the miniature. No size comparison shot, yet. I'll try to do one this week. Happy painting!

Review - Epic Terrain from Boneshop.de

I was not sure if I should get into Epic terrain before actually finishing my Ultramarine army but during the games I played, I quickly got tired of using Landraiders or Predators as objectives, additionally I kept thinking about how to base my Devastator squad. Some fellow Epic enthusiasts from Tabletopwelt, the forum where I'm quite active pointed me towards a kickstarter that the guys from Boneshop had started. It was about financing the production of huge titan walls for E:A games. I decided that at the moment that wasn't something that I would buy however I...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Praise the machine spirit

When I think about Space Marines in battle there's always a Land Raider involved, so after painting one as a colour sample at the start of my ultramarine army endeavor there were still three spots in that formation that needed filling. Before going to Attriticon (I'll write a few words about that Con in a later post, in short: it was great) I wanted to complete this formation. I got some metal Mark IIb Land Raider Phobos from ebay, not that I don't have loads of the plastic Proteus Pattern ones, but I thought a bit of...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Dispatching Terminators

A Space Marine force without a unit of Terminators would be missing something. I have long been looking for some decent Terminator scuplts until I finally found somebody who made these really cool Terminators. They are amazing, they look just like their big brothers: Stormshield, Poweraxe, Stormbolter and so forth, really cool. Side by side shot: Size comparisson shot:

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Approaching Attriticon

So just a quick post to show you what I still want to finish before I head off to the Attriticon in Ulm in two weeks. Together with a friend I'll be demoing Epic there. According to my email inbox the playing mat that I ordered from the Kraken Mat KS will have arrived when I get home today, so we'll have something to play on. I'm also working on some ruins to have something to put onto the mat, but I haven't taken a photo, yet. A few Terminators are waiting for the finishing...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Reinforcements are on their way, Commander!

Do you know that feeling, when you've been painting a lot of minis for one system and you feel your painting motivation dwindle away? I shelled out about 500 points worth of Batman miniatures and about the same amount of Freebooter's Fate Miniatures in the last months. That might not be much, but then again I don't have much time for this great hobby and skirmisher miniatures take up quite some time to get painted. So my Riddler Crew for Batman now is finished, well almost I still need to finish painting the Riddler Mech and then there'...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Barrage at Delta-Niner-Echo confirmed

So it was about time I got my hands and especially brushes back on some 6mm glory. Most of my absence from 6mm painting was owed to some new hobby-crack that I got into, the Batman Miniatures Game (BMG) (more about that at another time). Painting in 6mm really is something different than painting 28mm (or 35mm which is the BMG) Scale, it was great getting back to these tiny machines. In every army there are different roles that need to be fulfilled, there's the scout that blocks enemy movement and gets quickly where he needs to be, there'...

Painting up an Epic Ultramarine force - Take and hold that refinery!

After having seen Elsmore's splendid looking Blood Angels I wanted to make my infantry also something special and not just do the normal 5 figures in a row on a 1 x 4 cm strip with a bit of sand. However what basing-theme should I pick? The major theme for my army is toxic wasteland. So what can be found there besides poisonous, radiated lakes (amphibious marines? Not my cup of tea), waste dumbs (yeah, maybe) and ruins (well pretty standard, I'm sure I'll do some later on but not for my first bases), how about a refinery?...
