Wargame Player Finder FAQ

Why does it exist?

Because the question “does anyone play [insert game here] in [insert home town here]?” will always be relevant. And because many people (including myself) aren’t mad keen on social networks. I might even go so far as to say I’m attempting to promote real social networking. Find someone with similar interests, meet up in RL, play a game, share a meal/cup of tea/can of Coke/beer.

How do I add myself as a player?

Just create an account, navigate to ‘My Account’ in the main menu at the top of each page, and set a location and one or more areas of interest under ‘Player Finder’ in your profile.

Why isn’t my favourite game on here?

There are currently over 140 games listed. I plan to curate the list with the help of the community, possibly by running polls to determine which new games are added. Occasionally, I might drop a game off the list. This would happen if a game had been on the site for a significant amount of time without gaining traction. There’s no point having a game that lists 2 players globally!

Where have clubs gone?

I need to keep things simple for this release, but clubs might make a return in the future.

Will you charge for access?

You mean like one of those bait and switch schemes? Free ‘forever’, until it’s not? I have no such plans. Maybe if the Wargame Clubs Finder ever comes online I’ll setup a subscription for them. If I make any pocket money through other fun projects, it will go towards the upkeep of the Wargame Player Finder. If the Player Finder is wildly popular and I can’t pay for the Google API requests, I’ll look at alternative geolocation services.

Why are most of the avatars 40k inspired?

I originally commissioned them for the Epic 40k miniatures database, and I have re-used them. It would be nice to have some variety in theme, but I’ll have to see how much money is left over once I’ve paid my gas bill.. If anyone wants to commission an avatar, feel free to ask! Also worth noting – Gravatars have been removed for simplicity (and because I like consistency in style).
