Wargame Trunk
Accompanying Notes
This trunk is designed to be the ultimate expression of commitment to portable wargaming. A development of the Wargame in a Bigger Box project, this model extends the fully integrated playing surface out to 90cm by 60cm (35″ by 24″) and increases stability and rigidity via the use of fold-out support arms. This is simple to envisage, but not so practical to build using naturally uneven plywood. Still, we got there in the end with the help of stacks cutting and re-cutting, and some very expensive precision brass hinges (it turns out not all hinges are made equal).
Weighing in at around 7kg fully-laden it’s a chunky boi with a nice solid feel. All the arms, fold-outs, and drawer sections are magnetised for a nice reassuring snap. Everything one could possibly need for a game is contained within the trunk, including the battle mat. Encounter, pictured, uses a 60cm square mat, but there’s no reason why it couldn’t be used for Kill Team or something else completely. Eventually I’ll create some storage specifically 3mm scale models, so I can play out really big battles away from home.
